Toronto Islands
Skyline views, beaches, bike rentals, picnic spots, and a calmer break from downtown Toronto.
What to do in Toronto Islands
Take the ferry from downtown
Start at Jack Layton Ferry Terminal and take the short ride across the harbour. The ferry itself is part of the experience because you get one of the best easy skyline views of Toronto before reaching the islands.
Centre Island is the most popular arrival point for families and first-time visitors. Ward's Island feels quieter and works well if you want a slower walk back toward the beaches and residential lanes.
Ticket price range: Usually about CAD $5 to $10 per person for a round-trip ferry ticket, depending on age

Rent a bike or walk the paths
Use the island paths to move between lawns, beaches, picnic spots, and quieter corners. Walking is enough for a short visit, but bikes make it easier to cover more ground without rushing.
Ticket price range: Walking is free; bike rentals commonly cost about CAD $10 to $40+ depending on bike type and rental length

Relax at Centre Island or Ward's Island
Choose Centre Island for the most family-friendly layout, open lawns, snacks, and beach access. Choose Ward's Island if you want a calmer walk with cottages, trees, and a less crowded feel.
Ticket price range: Free once you are on the islands; food and rentals cost extra

Watch sunset over the skyline
Stay late enough to see the skyline shift from daylight to evening lights. The view back toward downtown is the reason many people time their return ferry close to sunset.
Look for open waterfront spots facing the mainland, then give yourself enough time to join the ferry line before the final departures of the night.
Ticket price range: Free from public waterfront areas

Planning tips
- Book or plan ferry timing around sunset if skyline photos are important.
- Bring water, sunscreen, and snacks because food lines can be long on summer weekends.
- Choose one main island area for a relaxed visit instead of trying to see everything quickly.
Parking tips
- The easiest plan is to use TTC, GO Transit, or walk from downtown because parking near the ferry terminal is limited and expensive.
- If driving, look for paid lots around Harbourfront or Union Station and leave extra time to walk to Jack Layton Ferry Terminal.
- On summer weekends, arrive early because ferry lines and nearby parking both get busy by late morning.
